- 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 2 tbsp butter, for greasing
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter. Peel and thinly slice potatoes and arrange in a single layer in the dish.
- In a saucepan, heat heavy cream with garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Pour half the sauce over the first potato layer. Repeat with remaining potatoes and sauce, pressing gently to coat.
- Sprinkle cheeses evenly on top. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake 20 more minutes until golden and bubbly.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the sauce.
- Broil for 2-3 minutes for a crispier top.
- Let rest 5-10 minutes before serving for easier slicing.
