Glazed Ham for Easter Dinner

  • Total Time: 1 hour 50 minutes

Description

Glazed Ham for Easter Dinner: A Juicy, Sweet, and Showstopping Centerpiece. This glazed ham recipe delivers a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors, with a caramelized crust that will have everyone asking for seconds. Whether you’re hosting a large family gathering or an intimate meal, this dish is sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8-10 lb) fully cooked bone-in ham
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 can pineapple rings (optional, for garnish)
  • Maraschino cherries (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Place the ham on a cutting board and score the surface in a diamond pattern, about ¼-inch deep. Insert whole cloves into the intersections of the cuts for extra flavor.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, and ground cloves. Simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Place the ham in a roasting pan, cut side down. Brush half of the glaze generously over the ham, making sure to coat all the scored areas. If using pineapple rings and cherries, secure them with toothpicks for a festive touch. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  4. Remove the foil and brush the ham with the remaining glaze. Increase the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and bake uncovered for another 20-30 minutes, or until the glaze is caramelized and bubbly. Let the ham rest for 15 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to redistribute.

Notes

  • Storage Tips: Store leftover ham in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can also freeze sliced ham in freezer-safe bags for up to 3 months.
  • Variations: Try adding cayenne pepper for a spicy glaze, maple syrup for a richer flavor, or citrus juice for extra brightness.
  • Common Mistakes: Avoid overcooking, not scoring deep enough, or skipping the resting time for best results.
