Description

Enjoy a timeless classic with this easy-to-follow Caesar Salad recipe! Crisp romaine lettuce, homemade croutons, and a creamy, tangy dressing come together for a perfect balance of flavors. This authentic Caesar Salad is ideal as a light lunch, a side dish, or a crowd-pleasing main course when you add your favorite protein.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head of romaine lettuce, washed and chopped
  • 1 cup of croutons (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • For the Dressing:
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 egg yolks
    • 1/4 cup lemon juice
    • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    • 1/2 cup olive oil
    • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Romaine Lettuce: Wash the romaine lettuce thoroughly and chop it into bite-sized pieces. Dry the lettuce well using a salad spinner or paper towels. This ensures that the dressing coats the lettuce properly without becoming watery.
  2. Make the Croutons: If using store-bought croutons, you can skip this step. For homemade Caesar salad croutons, cube some crusty bread, toss with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, then bake at 375Β°F (190Β°C) until golden brown and crispy. Let them cool before adding to the salad.
  3. Prepare the Caesar Dressing: In a bowl, whisk together the minced garlic, egg yolks, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard. Slowly drizzle in the olive oil while whisking continuously to emulsify the dressing. Stir in the Parmesan cheese and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Assemble the Salad: In a large bowl, combine the chopped romaine lettuce, croutons, and Parmesan cheese. Pour the Caesar dressing over the salad and toss gently until everything is well coated. Serve immediately to prevent the croutons from becoming soggy. For an extra touch, add crispy bacon bits.

Notes

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best flavor.
  • Make the dressing just before serving to maintain its creamy texture.
  • Don’t overdress the salad; add just enough to coat the lettuce lightly.
  • Chill the romaine lettuce before assembling the salad for extra crispness.
  • For a richer flavor, use freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
